Prime Time International Completing Smooth Management Transition

Over the last several years, two of Prime Time International’s founding partners have been turning the reins over to new managing partners Mike Way and Jeff Taylor. “It has been a very gradual transition as Jeff and Mike take on more responsibilities and assume day to day responsibilities, and Carl Sam Maggio and Mark Nickerson take a step back a bit,” said Mike Aiton, longtime director of marketing for the Coachella, CA-based firm. Nickerson is well-known across the valley for his service and philanthropy and became involved with Hidden Harvest twenty years ago when his wife JoAnn Nickerson told him about Porter's dream to have a garden to feed hungry people. Prime Time has been a partner ever since.

Prime Time International Names Brian Miller as Director of Business Development

Brian Miller has been named Director of Business Development for Prime Time International. Brian’s long time management career in the produce industry enabled him to gain a broad perspective in sourcing, sales, marketing and management. The scope of Brian’s responsibilities include building additional business with the existing customer base and expanding the ever growing production to new retail, food service, and wholesale customers. Additionally, Brian will find new avenues to expand the existing product line while also developing new marketing opportunities with other commodities.

Pepper Colors... Did You Know?

Did you know that green bell peppers are just immature colored bell peppers? Produce Retailer's Pamela Riemenschneider talked with some experts – namely Mike Aiton at Prime Time International – about how peppers actually get their color. A green bell pepper will eventually change color, but the ones you buy at the supermarket were specifically bred to be crunchy and delicious at the perfect color stage – be it green, red, orange, yellow, purple (yes, purple) or even red striped. But, if you buy a green bell pepper and expect it to change color and become sweet and delicious on your counter at home, you’ll be disappointed.

Prime Time International recently began shipping five pounds boxes of peppers to restaurants and other food service customers. Prime Time introduced the five pound box to satisfy the market’s growing demand These five pound boxes have distinct advantages for some customers. Often the twenty five pound box is shipped to a distributor who then invests labor and materials to split this carton into individual five pound boxes.

Prime Time International Continues Growth Strategy Acquiring Central California Packing House/Distribution Facility

Prime Time recently announced its acquisition of an 80,000 square foot packing house and distribution facility in Somis, California. Prime Time elected to move from its long termed leased facility to a location which could accommodate the projected future diversification and expansion. “This purchase enables us to expand not only our packing and shipping operations, but also to develop a line of services for other produce industry companies including handling, cooling, consolidation and cross docking,” explains Mike Way, Managing Member at Prime Time.

Colorful bell peppers are emerging as the new favorite of the vegetable world. Jolene Hart, author of Eat Pretty: Nutrition For Beauty, Inside and Out (Chronicle Books, $17 touts the benefits of eating a bell pepper daily. According to InStyle Magazine, “the book details the way food offers natural fixes.” Hart suggests eating one bell pepper a day to slow the aging process. In addition, she points to the nutritional fact that one bell pepper contains up to 600 percent of the daily requirements of Vitamin C, helping to deter collagen depletion.
